Bishops in the Big Apple

So, if you are reading this you must have figured out that we have some pretty life-altering news we are excited to share about our family colliding with God's plan.  Let's see, how do I say this?  I guess I just need to spit it out to make it real.

Here goes.....We are moving to New York City to plant a church!!!!

Say what?!?

Yep, it's true.  The good Lord has been chiseling away on our hearts over the past couple of years.  After much prayer -- saying, "huh?" -- more prayer -- and more asking, "are you sure Lord?" -- we feel a deep sense of confirmation that we must obediently follow His steps.....all the way to NYC!!

Jesus delivers a profound, final message in Matthew 28.  He's just been crucified, buried, and has risen from the dead.  He's appeared to a few folks and now he says these words, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me."

Let's stop right there.  First of all, I would venture to guess that the disciples were hanging on Jesus' every word after he states that he has been given ALL AUTHORITY IN HEAVEN & EARTH.

Jesus then says, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Simple and concise.  GO, MAKE, BAPTIZE, TEACH.  Oh, and, by the way, I'll always be with you.

This command is clear and direct and is one I've never been able to just skip over as I study God's word.  This command has gripped my heart from an early age and just seems to "keep coming up" in sermons, books, through people, in work & play, and as the spirit speaks to me.

As we hope, dream, and pray for the nations to know Jesus, we recognize that our family's purpose in this mandate is to go specifically to "the nations" residing in New York City.  Exciting.  Scary. Wonderful.  Overwhelmingly blessed.  These are some emotions we are feeling as we consider this task, accept His call, and move toward making it a reality.

Here's the thing.  This final message from Jesus is THE most important message he had to say or else he would have ended with something different before ascending to heaven.  It's not just for us to follow.  It's for you too.  How will you be part of bringing the gospel message to all nations?

Would you pray for us?  Would you pray for the nations residing in NYC?  Would you pray for this new church plant?  Would you ask God to reveal your role in this church plant?
